Kent’s Hidden Secrets On Our Doorstep

19.10.2016 - General

We are all guilty of perhaps not noticing or appreciating what is right on our doorstep, the hidden secrets we often overlook – and for excitement, adventure or something slightly more interesting we tend to look further afield for some reason.

Maybe ‘the grass is always greener’ could be the culprit and we don’t realise that there are actually plenty of interesting things to do right here in our county – so let’s look a little closer to home next time we are making weekend plans or planning a day out. Here we have made a collection of some of the best hidden secrets right on our doorstep – 5 diverse activities for something a little different to try out.

Macknade Fine Foods – If you are a real foodie and you enjoy wandering around farm shops admiring the crates of fresh vegetables and rows of jams and chutney’s – Macknade’s is the place to go. Here it isn’t just a farm shop – it’s a quality shopping experience. They also have The Café which showcases their own Kent produce so you can even try before you buy!

Chartham Vineyard – A brand new, family run vineyard in East Kent. They had their first ever harvest in October 2015 and their first wines were available in the Spring. Pop in to sample locally produced wine from the farm and speak to the people who did it!

Leeds Castle – Did you know you can go on a hot air balloon ride from the grounds of the Leeds Castle?! What an amazing view to admire whilst floating up and away into the air.

Tom Thumb Theatre – One of the smallest theatres in the world and the feeling of being transported back in time with its charming interior and Victorian building. Enjoy live music, indie films, comedy nights, burlesque and even story-telling nights.

Ramsgate Tunnels – Explore the town below the town. During World War II a network of tunnels were constructed to protect the population and over 1,000 people lived in make-shift homes within the bomb proof deep shelter tunnels underground. Fascinating!
